A few weeks ago, I asked ChatGPT to name some experts in a niche field for one of my clients. It gave me five names I’d never heard of.

I looked them up, and was surprised to find that they weren’t the most credentialed, or have the deepest experience. Their websites and LinkedIn profiles? Mostly buzzwords. But they were showing up — in exactly the places AI tools scrape for answers.
​
I used to wonder...can I be Googled? And now the real question is: “Will I come up in an AI generated summary?"
📍From SEO to GEO
In marketing and business ownership, we used to talk a lot about SEO — Search Engine Optimization. But now there’s a new layer emerging: GEO — Generative Engine Optimization. And it's not just for marketers.

GEO is the fancy term for whether or not your name, your work, or your expertise gets cited in AI-generated answers. Tools like ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, and Perplexity are shaping public perception faster than most blogs or publications.
​
A few years ago, it was hard to imagine getting an answer faster than "googling it", but now, we barely even click; everything comes with an AI generated summary. GEO isn’t just about being online — it’s about having a story-forward digital presence that knows how to speak for you when you’re not in the room (or the search bar).

AI isn’t (yet) finding the deepest thinkers. It’s finding the clearest ones. The ones who’ve taken the time to tell their story in plain language. The ones who’ve made their work legible, public, and pattern-friendly for all of the internet to see.

This shift doesn’t just affect content creators or startup founders.

âś… Use platforms AI scrapes. LinkedIn. Substack. Medium. Kit. Public Notion pages.
Your newsletter is more than a vibe — it’s an SEO (and now GEO) asset.

✅ Tie your name to your work. Don’t hide behind a brand. Make sure your name appears with your ideas. So when someone searches “executive coach who helps women navigate visibility and leadership,” your work has a shot at being cited (this is what I'm currently working on!).

Your story needs to be clear, searchable, and legible — to humans and machines.
